READ: KITCHENETTE SHUTTERS ON AMSTERDAM
Harlem Bespoke: Kitchenette has been one of uptown's beloved comfort food eateries for over a decade but has shuttered as of last week. The local brunch favorite by 123rd Street and Amsterdam Avenue originally had a location in Tribeca and was one of the newer southern restaurants to open uptown back in the mid aughts before the Harlem contemporary food scene took off. Chef Marcus Samuelsson mentioned that the restaurant was one of his local favorites before he debuted Red Rooster further up north and we also frequent Kitchenette back in the day when there were not a lot of new dining options around. Higher operation costs because of the $15 minimum wage hike apparently is one of the big reasons this is happening and many small restaurants could meet the same fate in the next year or so. More on Kitchenette can be found in one of our first 2009 posts: LINK
