REMEMBER: 125TH STREET IN COLOR CIRCA 1963
Harlem Bespoke: There are not many color images of 125th Street before the 1970s that we could find on file but a film on youtube from British Pathe provides did come up with an astonishing recording. As can be seen from the still in the top photo, the vista captured is looking east from mid block right before 7ht avenue on 125th Street. The major clue here is the Hotel Theresa which can be seen at the at center to the right as the tallest building on the street. One can also see the low level commercial building to the far left in the distance and this would eventually be demolished just a few years later to make way for the Adam Clayton Powell State Office Building. Check out the full clip on Youtube and briefly get a glimpse of Harlem in motion during the mid century at around the 5:15 mark: LINK
