REMEMBER: ORIGINAL HARLEM LANES ON 125TH STREET

Harlem Bespoke:  Many might know that Harlem Lanes at the historic Alhambra Ballroom on 7th Avenue shuttered back in 2012 but there was actually an older bowling alley with the same name in the 1960s.  Another screen shot from the Pathe video archive shows a certain uptown main commercial corridor with a massive marquee that has Harlem Lanes as the headliner.  We will get a better photo of the current location this weekend but can anyone guess where this image was taken?
The photo taken yesterday shows a modern white building at this location facing east right before 7th Avenue on 125th Street. There was a historic building called The Harlem Opera House that stood up until the 1960s before being demolished and the last commercial use was for the bowling alley.  As the name suggests, there were actual opera performances at the theater back when construction finished up in 1889 but the address would used for other types of businesses in later decades.  Check out an archival photo of the Opera House in our past post: LINK
