REMEMBER: THE 10 ANNUAL HARLEM HARVEST FESTIVAL
Harlem Bespoke: There was perfect weather yesterday for the 10th Annual Harlem Harvest Festival on St. Nicholas Avenue by 117th Street and everyone in the neighborhood pretty much showed up for the local street fair celebrating the season. There were a quite a few new vendors this year serving up specialty foods, crafted goods and also a lot of family-friendly activities. Lines formed for face painting and also pumpkin painting during the day and much of seasonal gourd art were on display on the streets when all finished up.
A stage at the other end had live DJ music and there was also the annual bake off which apparently included mostly small business owners competing but the winner of the pie contest was a local home cook who whipped up an incredible Apple Cheddar pie. Chef Joseph Johnson was also on hand featuring his restaurant Field Trip with some of the most savory cassava chips to be found uptown. We especially like that there still is a neighborhood feel to Harlem Harvest which makes the annual event a standout compared to the more generic street fairs that pop up further downtown in Manhattan.
