DEMOLITION: BAPTIST TEMPLE ON 116TH STREET

Harlem Bespoke:  There was an announcement back in 2016 that the Baptist Temple Church on West 116th Street between Fifth and Lenox Avenue had been sold to a developer and things appear to be moving forward now.  Plywood has been set up around the former house of worship that also was originally a Jewish temple and permits approved from this past summer confirm that a full demolition will be taking place soon.  There will be an 11-story residential tower rising on the lot when all finishes up: LINK

  1. I know this is a considered a sad situation, however many of out black insitutions are making financial decisions to stay alive in the community. They are doing thier best, and I feel that when this happens, they are winning, because the only thing constant is change.
