BEST NEW AFRICAN RESTAURANT 2019: TERANGA
Harlem Bespoke: Heading towards the last few weeks of 2019, HB will be reviewing some of the best Harlem has to offer for the year. There has been an uptick in new openings this year and those establishments did shine with overall concept, design, quality of offerings and service. Next up is Best New African Restaurant 2019:
Most New Yorkers are not familiar with red Jollof rice, Yassa chicken with savory onions or plantain Fu Fu but that has all now changed. Uptown has a lot of African restaurants especially in Central Harlem but Teranga by 110th Street on Fifth Avenue has had critics raving all over Manhattan since opening in the beginning of the year. Chef Pierre Thiam has a big reputation as far as West African cuisine is concerned and the new casual dining spot with views of Central Park makes everything really accessible in a museum like setting.
There is even a gallery in the back and the weekends are definitely quite packed since the word of mouth has been excellent in the past several months. With that said, we predict that contemporary African eateries will be the next wave of restaurants to open all around town because Teranga has definitely made a mark on the city's international dining map. More on Teranga can be found in our past post: LINK
