FIRST LOOK: THE HARLEM NIGHT MARKET PREMIERE
Harlem Bespoke: We dropped by the first Harlem Night Market of the month at the La Marqueta extension on Park Avenue and 116th Street this past Saturday. Doors opened at 4:00PM and the crowds arrived quite quickly to the glass encased underpass that just finished construction in the past month. Several dozen merchants were allocated the block-long stretch to sections marked as Makers, Savory, Sweet and Beer Garden which required ID to enter. An on site DJ provided music at the last section towards 115th Street which was an all out dance floor for the evening.
We especially like the old photos of the historic market that were a reminder of the days when hundreds of merchants used to pack the underpass of La Marqueta and this community effort to revive small local businesses definitely captured that atmosphere. Santa dropped by earlier in the evening and the Three Kings also made the holiday rounds. Harlem Shake, Sugar Hill Creamery and a load of local food merchants were on hand a all of the small bites were under $10 for the most part. Sisters restaurant also had a table with some amazing roasted crispy pork and announced that they will be launching a second restaurant called Boricua Soul on the east side in the coming months. If you missed out on this market, make sure to drop by this coming Saturday or the next one after to shop the Harlem Night Market: LINK
