EAT: SHAKE SHACK KOREAN FRIED CHICKEN

Harlem Bespoke:  Shake Shack just dropped a surprising Korean Fried Chicken menu this week and we had to stop by the location on 125th Street to see what all the buzz was about.  For those not familiar with the trend, Korean fried chicken has been a big thing in the city for at least the past 5 years and the crispy chicken pieces are usually tossed with a savory sweet sauce.  This version in the a classic fried chicken sandwich has the crunchy patty coated with gochujang hot sauce which is the fermented Korean red pepper paste that can range in a variety of spice levels.  Shake Shack pretty much chose the mildest level sauce but the unique flavor still was on point.  Included was also a layer of mild white kimchi but that pretty much is just coleslaw and our only complaint is that everything was bit skimpier looking than the photos advertising the special.

The chicken bites or fries also come with gochujang-mayo dipping sauce which was a very mild flavor profile in comparison to the sandwich but still all around was good new experience.  There is not much room for messing up the signature chicken nuggets and crinkle fries so everything here looked on point. Definitely worth trying at least once for those who are looking for something a little more interesting than what is typically found on the menu.  Check out more on the Harlem Shake Shack in our past post: LINK
