SHOP: CHARLES PANFRIED CHICKEN SHUTTERED?

Harlem Bespoke:  After much fanfare in February about opening another location on the Upper West Side, it now appears that Charles Panfried Chicken has shuttered on Frederick Douglass Boulevard.  We walked by the shop on Frederick Douglass Boulevard by 132nd Street yesterday and noticed that the usual social distancing signs were no longer up on the door and was shocked when we peered inside.
As can be seen from the interior photo, everything has been gutted from within.  It is unclear now if the other location will now be the only one to be found in the city which would be rather unfortunate.  Charles has been cooking in Harlem for decades now and retail rents are apparently quite a deal these days.  It would be a shame to see the James Beard Award nominee not be part of the neighborhood anymore after all these years and the community would surely rally to help start up business again. More on the Charles expansion to the Upper West Side can be found in our February post: LINK
