SHOP: LION’S MANE AT THE FARMERS MARKET

Harlem Bespoke:  We bought some extraordinary Chestnut Mushrooms two weeks ago at the Mornings Park Farmers Market on Saturdays at 110th Street  but then noticed some gigantic Lion's Mane mushrooms on our visit last weekend.  Hodgins Harvest mushroom grows everything upstate and they ten to focus on more harder to find delicacies that are not on supermarket shelves.

There was a large tray of them on the side of the stand and we originally thought they were white truffles.  Upon closer inspection, one can see the fury mane that is the signature texture for this type of mushroom.  This is also an especially delicious mushroom since you cut it into thick quarter inch slices and can brown them in a little olive oil like a crab cake and then melt some butter with a dash of salt to finish.  Some say that there is a lobster or crab flavor but we side with scallop since the texture inside is similar after the searing.  More on the Hodgins Harvest can be found in our past post: LINK
