REMEMBER: HARLEM'S GREEK STADIUM CIRCA 1915

Harlem Bespoke:  We found this aerial view of Harlem's gigantic Greek stadium that was finished up in 1915 but was eventually demolished in in the 1970s to make way for a new City College campus building.  Lewisohn Stadium by 136th Street and Amsterdam Avenue was probably the most spectacular outdoor venue to ever have been built in the city but everything was a little too good to be true.  The breathtaking structure was actually a gift to the community campus by a philanthropist who paid for the construction and legends such as Ella Fitgerald, Louis Amstrong, Marian Anderson and Frank Sinatra performed for the public in open air 8,000 seater.  We actually posted the last color reel of the stadium filmed for a movie in our past post, so check out the rare footage if so inclined: LINK
