REMEMBER: THE NATIONAL BLACK THEATRE STATUE

Harlem Bespoke:  We mentioned last week that the National Black Theatre building on 5th Avenue by 125th Street had plywood surrounding it in preparation for demolition and some may wonder what will be happening to the iconic statue out front. The above photos were taken over the weekend through the mesh screen that covers some of the plywood windows and the statue above the doorway is currently still intact.  Hopefully this can be used again at the new theatre space within the new planned tower or just eventually sold to interested museums, collectors and antique dealers. There is actually not a lot of black figurative sculptural art in the neighborhood and this is one of the more striking examples to be found uptown.   Read more about the demolition of the National Black Theatre in our past post: LINK
