LOST BROWNSTONES OF MOUNT MORRIS PARK NORTH

Harlem Bespoke:  We notice construction at the rather nondescript brick building on West 124th Street on the north side of Marcus Garvey Park and realized that there was probably something else originally here back in the day. When the former Mount Morris Park neighborhood was built up over a century ago, having a residence on the park square was probably ideal for uptown living and it only makes sense that all four corners would be surrounded by brownstones.  Archival photos from the 1940s show that both sides of the library building did indeed have rows of townhouses back in the day but they have now been replaced over the decades by larger brick structures.  Mount Morris Park West and also part of the south side is still intact in current times but the other parts of the park are unrecognizable from the original planning.
