Harlem Bespoke: The Harlem label appears to be everywhere this year but the truth of it all is that not much is actually produced for whole sale out of Harlem. Uptown's west side used to be a hub of manufacturing decades ago with a dairy plants, a brewery and bread company being some of the key anchors for business which also were a great provider of jobs. Somehow everything has disappeared since then but one company back in 2019 set up shop over on Amsterdam just north of 125th Street.
Plowshares relocated its headquarters and operations a couple of years back from Hillburn, New York in Rockland County to Manhattanville. This 3,600 square foot space, located at 1351 Amsterdam Avenue between West 125th and 126th Streets, includes over 1,100 square feet for retail customers with ample space for seating and community overlooking a 1940’snewly-refurbished vintage 22 KiloProbat roasting operation and espresso lab. The roasting facility in the back provides fresh ground coffee beans to other shops in the city and the cafe out front services the neighborhood. We could definitely use a micro brewery or some sort of other businesses of this type in the area so spread the word when possible to all of the local businesses out there. More on Plowshares can be found in our past post: LINK
