Harlem Bespoke: Another landmark church that was in peril this year was All Saints at the corner of 129th Street and Madison but the St. Patricks of Harlem will now be restored in a miraculous adaptive reuse plan that will infinitely be beneficial to the neighborhood. It turns out that one of the wealthiest rappers in history of music who grew up in Harlem has brought it all back to his hometown and will be helping out generations of kids. The grand Venetian Gothic structure takes up an entire city block and The Post just had an article mentioning that music mogul Sean Combs will have everything converted into a charter school for Harlem. The move is actually a relocation of existing Capital Prep that will allow the school to grow in size to 700 students from 6th to 12th grade with everything coming together as early as next year.
This Catholic church was founded originally by Irish immigrants back in 1893 but has since gone through many changes in congregations over the past century. Everything closed down in 2015 but the city had also had the notable building made an official landmark in 2007. We especially like this development since it shows that such massive heritage sites can be used for other things instead residential purposes that often require alterations to the original design.
