REMEMBER: A BROWNSTONE ON 125TH CIRCA 1940
Harlem Bespoke: Our previous Christmas post revealed a lone standing brownstone at 20 West 125th Street by Fifth Avenue and wonder if there were any other images from the past that might reveal what the original buildings on the block used to look like. An archival photo from around 1940 shows pretty much the same setup as today with the taller tenement building on the right side. We suspect that there were probably matching brownstone built sometimes in the mid 1800s but developers have been knocking down brownstones blocks to make room for larger construction projects since then. An older photo from the north side of 125th Street shows a row of homes that no longer stands today and were probably similar to the ones missing at this corner of Harlem: LINK
