QUESTION: MORE DEVELOPMENT AT 655 ST. NICHOLAS?

Harlem Bespoke:  We have been taking photos of the development plans by Harlem School of the Arts for a decade now and remember when a huge 111 unit residential building was proposed next door at a massive lot that used to have an old garage building on it.  The lot was even staged as a set for West Side Story recently in a scene that depicts the Puerto Rican neighborhood being taken over by rampant development.  So what did eventually happen here?

In 2013, there was an announcement that the Harlem Academy would build a smaller school on part of the land but there was still a lot of space next door that might be used for another purpose.  The school finished up during the pandemic and we just recently noticed that that the area adjacent to the new institution has now been transformed into a playground.  More schools and outdoor spaces for the families of the neighborhood is always a good thing, so everything really worked out this time around.
