REMEMBER: THE WORST BUILDING ON 145TH STREET

Harlem Bespoke: Some members of the local West Harlem community board wanted to tear down the historic school building on 145th Street just west of Broadway about 10 years ago.  We remember some members of CB9 who had little faith in getting affordable housing in without demolishing the building for a new tower but guess what eventually happened?

Somehow after three decades of conflicting interests, the former Public School 186 eventually started the restoration process in 2014 and completed everything a couple of years later.  Somehow the impossible was done right and affordable housing was in place along with a local community non-profit organization.  We walked by this afternoon and took the current photos which shows how a little extra effort made it all happen at the end.
