SEE: BLACK METROPOLIS AT CHILDREN’S ART CARNIVAL

February 1st through March 31st,  Black Metropolis exhibit at The Children's Art Carnival, 62 Hamilton Place by 144th Street, Tuesdays through Sundays, 12:00 Noon-7:00PM. The Children's Art Carnival started in 1969 by the Museum of Modern Art as part of an outreach program for youth in the community and now is also showcasing emerging local artists with exhibits at the Hamilton Heights townhouse.  Black Metropolis is a 30-year retrospective on award-winning illustrator and self-described ‘OG Afrofuturist’ Tim Fielder.

The multi-media exhibition features close to 100 drawings, animated clips, and digital stills from Fielder’s decades-long career – visually transcribing his cultural migration from Mississippi to New York City to working the obscure margins of alternative weekly editorial cartoons, designing black rock music flyers, staking his place in the field of Visual Afrofuturism, African religious modalities, and mainstream pop-culture.
