ARCHITECTURE: 26-28 EDGECOMBE AVENUE C. 1940

Harlem Bespoke:  The stalled construction of 26-28 Edgecombe Avenue might just eventually restore the original architecture from the alterations at hand since the buildings are now part of the Dorrance Brooks Historic District.  Interestingly enough, neighbors advocated to include the altered buildings in the new landmark neighborhood starting at 136th Street across from St. Nicholas Park.  This would mean than any new construction would have to follow the original designs from about a century ago and all of the facade details would have to be restored going forward.  There might be an issue with financing since nothing has happened here for a long time and so partnering with a developer or selling the property might be an alternative to get things going again.  More on the Dorrance Brooks Historic District can be found in our past post: LINK
