THE SISYPHUS STONES AT RIVERSIDE PARK 2022

Harlem Bespoke:  The mysterious mini Stonehenge rose up on by the Hudson River by West 171st Street back in 2017 and the roughly 200 sculptures now called the Sisyphus Stones are always being replenished since they are not secured in any fashion.  We walked by the narrow beachfront a few blocks before the George Washington Bridge last month and took the most current photos that can be seen above.  The tallest pieces are over 6 feet in height and one head rock the size of small melon fell down just as we walked by and luckily did not do any harm.  But what are the stones all about?  Surprisingly a local self-taught artist by the name of Uliks Gryka who also goes by Ulysses just started putting them together randomly after biking past the site one day.  This public art is a labor of love and provides a natural prehistoric feel which is seldom seen these day but just be careful not to walk too close since nothing is glued or cemented down on any of the pieces. Here is the NY Times article from a few years ago with the full story: LINK
