INTRODUCING: THE FIRE WATCH TOWER RISES

Harlem Bespoke: The fire watchtower on top of Marcus Garvey Park was dismantled back in 2015 to restore deteriorating parts on the 19th century structure and now things are all being put back in place.  In just the past couple of weeks, the view below the park has changed dramatically with scaffolding being installed to help support the metal beams when they arrive.  This official landmark is basically one of last bell towers used by the fire department in the 1800s to signal fireman when disaster struck and has been associated with the Mount Morris Park neighborhood for over 160 years.    Word of mouth has it that everything will be complete by January 2019 which looks to be feasible based on the current rate of construction.  Check out older photos of the watchtower in our past post: LINK

DWELL: 389 CONVENT AVENUE REDUCED

Harlem Bespoke:  The lowest priced Harlem townhouse currently available has been reduced even further.  Number 389 Convent Avenue has arrived on the market for the asking price of $1.39 million back in September but now the fixer-upper is going for $1.25 million.  Apparently this address just north of 146th Street is not an SRO and has been used a single-family home in the past but now is basically a shell.  The listing mentions that the interior can not be viewed because of poor conditions so this might be one of the risks involved for potential buyers.  Other than that, the express train entrance at 147th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue is only a couple of blocks away, so the location is ideal for commuters.  More details and contact information can be found on the broker site: LINK

CONSTRUCTION: GLASS AT THE VICTORIA

Harlem Bespoke: New buildings get glass usually towards the end of construction but it looks like the Victoria development on 125th Street has had a head start.  Windows were being installed at the lower levels last week even though only half of the floors are in place. When all finishes up, there will be 26-stories altogether which will include a hotel on the front end and affordable rentals on the 126th Street side of the address.   Summer 2019 is the estimated finish date and those interested in seeing the final design should check out the original rendering in our past post: LINK
