☞ INTRODUCING: The 315 West 126th Facade
It was only about a couple of months ago that we noticed the new 2-family townhouse rising at a former lot on West 126th Street. The end of the block towards St. Nicholas Avenue consists of two identical bookend townhouse with a large community garden in between (on lots that probably had matching townhouses a century ago). On the bright side, the new structure does have a stoop and tries to get things contextual with a cornice at top and lintel details. Proportion wise, it is sort of all over the place since having three windows across the top two floors and two at the lower level would definitely be more balance with the look of a classic townhouse. There's probably a cost factor to why all of these decision are made but other new modest Harlem townhouses constructed in recent years have looked a little more accurate in the traditional aesthetics department.

Looks pretty awful and cheaply constructed to me, especially those terrible Fedders a/c units.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion UptownGirl understated.
