☞ REMEMBER: M&G Diner circa 2001

Raymond Sicignano painted portraits of Harlem storefronts over a decade ago and the above is a close up of M&G Diner back in the day.  The diner has since closed, the yellow paint stripped from the building and the store space is now up for lease.  Check out the full painting and some of the classic spots that have since disappeared on the Raymond Sicignano site: LINK

☞ REMEMBER: Lenox Lounge circa 2001

Artist Raymond Sicignano rendered portraits of notable Harlem storefronts just over a decade ago and the above rendition is that of Lenox Lounge back in 2001.  The artist captured a handful of local spots in his works and Lenox Lounge was one of the last ones still standing.  Check out the full gallery of storefronts that have disappeared on Mr. Sicignano site: LINK

☞ REMEMBER: The Harlem Moon Bar & Grill

Artist Raymond Sicignano paints vanishing storefronts across America and he recently asked if we had any old images of the Harlem Moon Bar & Grill that used to be on ACP/7th Avenue and 136th Street. We couldn't actually find much out there on the establishment except for an address in an old Amsterdam News clip on its opening at this general location from 1941. The lower photo shows the Harlem Deli at 2320 ACP and we kind of feel that this might have been the corner based on the original painting. Does anyone remember the place and when it actually closed? Love the dimensional moon in the signage! We will have more then-and-now photos based on Mr. Sicignano's work in the future. Check out the artist website: www.RaizArt.com

☞ SEE: A Portrait of Sherman's Bar BQ

Artist Raymond Sicignano painted many of Harlem's vanishing storefronts several years ago and sent in an image of one of the other Sherman's branches that was still in existence at the time.  The familiar blue and red storefront is the same as the last remaining shop on 145th Street but this facade also has a very distinct signage in the shape of chicken.  Does anyone know if this particular branch was in Harlem?  Check out more Harlem and New York shop portraits by the artist at:  www.RaizArt.com

☞ REMEMBER: The Oldest Fish Market in Harlem

Artist Raymond Sicignano Harlem storefront series shows vanishing old Harlem shops as they stood a decade ago. The abandoned fish market in the shell of a building just north of 130th Street and Lenox apparently was the oldest fish market in Harlem. The storefront is up for rent now but considering the condition of the block, that might be a tough sell (seeing that the entire structure would have to be renovated). Does anyone know when this fish market shut down? Check out the other painting in this series: LINK. Current photo by Ulysses. www.RaizArt.com
