☞ DWELL: Langston Hughes House off Market
We had a couple of posts on the sale of the Langston Hughes House on 20 East 127th Street this past summer and it now seems the house did not get any offers within the asking range of $1.2 million. The listing is officially "temporarily off the market." At the open house over the summer, there were quite a few folks looking at the property. Once inside the house, the detail-rich interior was apparent but so was the amount of work needed to get it up and going again. Another factor is that the house was also technically in East Harlem, albeit in a prime section off of 5th Avenue. Don't get us wrong, we love the up-and-coming nature of the neighborhood but it might be only appealing for entry level buyers and not so much for those with over a million to spend. In this down market, buyers are not paying over $1 million in Harlem for a house that needs work; therefore, some optimistic sellers are pulling their listings until better days come along.
