☞ REMEMBER: Langston Hughes' Harlem
The top photo is from the Life magazine archive and shows Langston Hughes about a block south from his house in East Harlem circa 1958. This corner of East 126th Street, between Madison and Park Avenue looks pretty much the same today except that the building to the far right no longer exists. Such open lots always make us wonder why developers choose to destroy existing homes instead of seeking out land that they can build on. The closest subway is the 2,3 or 4,5,6 at 125th Street.
