☞ ARCHITECTURE: The Museum for African Art
The new Museum for African Art is probably the quickest moving, large scale project in Harlem. The building also known as 1280 Fifth Avenue had started putting glass up at the beginning of this month and is almost complete but the most interesting section of the design is at the base. What's just been installed are the geometric pattern masonry (lower photo) which are a distinct custom-made design for the building. The pattern also reflects the rick-rack geometric windows that will be installed at the ground levels on the opposite side of the building. Probably the most interesting feature of the building's overall design, the stacked geo-windows will apparently be installed last since they are the most complicated detail. See the original digital sketch in our past post: LINK. The Museum for African Art is at the northeast corner of Central Park North and can be reached by the 2,3 express train at 110th Street and is slated to open in 2010. Photo by Ulysses
