☞ ARCHITECTURE: Bradhurst's Painted Ladies

The handsome row of uninterrupted brownstones at No. 31-51 Bradhurst Avenue between West 143rd and 145th Street in Hamilton Heights is probably the closest thing in Manhattan to the historic frame houses lining the hills of San Francisco (albeit the stone and metal versions). The narrow row houses on high stoops line this elevation with color pitched facades and oriels in contrast color. When approaching Bradhurst Avenue from the east side streets, the view is quite startling because of the symmetry and the low nature of the buildings. Bradhurst Avenue is between St. Nicholas Avenue and FDB/8th Avenue for those unfamiliar with the area. The closest train is the A,B,C,D at 145th Street. Photos by Ulysses

  1. A lovely area, that can be made better if they renovate the couple of buildings south of here that are abandoned. Bradhurst Area is quite nice now - especially north where empty lots have been filled with new developments.
