☞ ARCHITECTURE: City College in Winter
Sometimes the charm of Vinegar Hill's City College gets lost with the jumble of modern structures that impose themselves upon the view while entering the southern end of the campus. We decide to take a winter walk and entered the campus on the traditional west side (at 139th and Amsterdam) this past holiday and found that the 19th century architecture still holds up with weather and time. With all the gothic stonework, this campus looks like it would be found in England and could be the most impressive one in the entire NYC area. Being a public college, the institution often does not get much attention but its campus definitely is more impressive than anything one would find down at NYU. The closest subway is the 1 train at the City College stop on 137th Street. Photos by Ulysses

It really is a beautiful campus. The architecture is magnificent, definitely better than what NYU is serving up.
ReplyDeleteThe whole area is one of Manhattan's most amazing areas. Hope that City College buy some of the abandaoned townhouses nearby and removates them. Now is the time and it will help preerve more of this incredible neighborhood.
