☞ MEET: Vincent Morgan

Friday, January 8th, starting 7:30 PM at the Maysles Cinema after the screening of 125 Franco's Blvd. Vincent Morgan has been in the news last year as the former aid to Congressman Charles Rangel who is challenging his former boss in the 2010 elections. Of course Mr. Morgan has a handful of notable comparison that the press likes to point out. To name a few, the African-American family man comes off as book smart, has a young inspired following, stands for change against old establishment policies, and there's that youthful presence about him that stands out in a well tailored suit. Another point to note is that the politician is raising funds through small donations, via the internet, in order to challenge the long standing opponent's hefty war chest.

See what Vincent Morgan has to say about preserving 125th Street since he will be a part of the guest panel after tonight's movie screening at the Maysles Cinema on 343 Malcolm X Blvd/Lenox Avenue between 127th and 128th Streets. Tel. 212-582-6050. Nearest subway is the 2,3 train at 125th Street. For those who can't make it, go to the Vincent Morgan 4 Congress Facebook site to keep up to date with the campaign and to contribute. LINK.

  1. would love to see someone take on the Establishment's hold on a more progressive Harlem. The Empowerment Zone is all they have to show, and it turned out to be a forward outpost for gentrification, which has reeked havoc on Black working class families

  2. This was a fascinating and illuminating evening, both the film itself and the panel discussion afterward. Lots of good talk and ideas about what might be done to preserve Franco the Great's gate art, even if not all on 125th Street itself.
