☞ READ: Coyote and Raccoons Roam Harlem
Another interesting fact of last week's Community Board 9 meeting was that nature seems to really be making a comeback in West Harlem. Apparently, the verdant hills of Trinity Cemetery on 155th Street and Broadway attracted the eye of a roaming coyote, which was spotted strolling the nabe around 9:30 AM last Wednesday. The less than two-year-old female was captured and tranquilized after nervous residents started calling 911 upon seeing the wily canine. Currently at the Bronx Zoo for observation, the animal will probably be released outside of the city at some point. Read more about it on the CNN website: LINK. Another creature feature mentioned at the board meeting is that the Parks Department has reported rabid raccoons at Central Park and Morningside Park. Ahh...Nature. Racoon wandered in through our cat flap, splashed about for a bit in the cats’ water fountain. Cats looked at him/her, he looked back. I looked, he or she looked back. Wandered back out through the cat flap; obviously just passing through to or from Marcus Garvey Park.
ReplyDeleteWe almost got jacked for our lunch by a couple of raccoons near the pond on 105th street a few weeks ago. 2 of them approached us kind of nice like at first and then one of them circled around behind us for a rear assault. We ran away in terror. Those opposable thumbs scare the heck out of me!
