☞ REMEMBER: Sugar Hill and Edgecombe Avenue
The New York Times has a fantastic multi-media presentation on some of the greats of the Harlem Renaissance who lived on Edgecombe Avenue along Sugar Hill. There's a short clip of the artist Faith Ringgold who reminisces about hanging out on the prewar building's roofs, which were fondly referenced as Tar Beach, and how just the sheer amount of music talent in the neighborhood was inspirational to the local children. See and listen on the New York Times site: LINK.
