☞ WALK: Scientology's Main Harlem Branch
Until a reader pointed it last week, we really never noticed the East Harlem branch of the Church of Scientology. The storefront on 16 East 116th Street, between 5th and Madison, has a rather demure stature and the graphics on the awning are so mass-market-looking that many onlookers would not connect the space with the high profile religion. After buying much more distinct buildings on East 125th Street and not coming up with the funds to restore them, the religious offices seem to be in limbo until better economic times come along. Read more about the other Scientology properties in our past post: LINK. The closest train to this location is the 2,3 or the 6 train at 116th Street. Photo by Ulysses
