☞ INTRODUCING: The New Convent on Convent
The activity on the open corner lot at 150th Street and Convent Avenue had us wondering for some time what the new construction was all about. It turns out that an eco-friendly, green convent is taking form on this corner of Convent Avenue. The Episcopal Sisters of the Community of the Holy Spirit are moving from their original location on 113th Street in Morningside Heights and heading to Hamilton Heights in the near future. The sisters who wanted a smaller carbon footprint for their housing needs sold their property to Columbia University and hired Chelsea design firm BKSK Architects to get the eco convent on Convent started. See what the original corner house on the empty lot looked like in the 1930's from our original post: LINK. There is also an article that the New York Times published a year ago explaining the sister's move in full detail: LINK. Current photo by Ulysses.
