☞ MEET: SRO Expert Advice at MMPCIA

Tonight, Tuesday, May 18th, 7:00 PM at Rice High School. The Mount Morris Park Coummunity Improvement Association will have guest speakers that can answer some of those SRO questions that many brownstone buyers might have.

Donald Ranshte, Director of Intergovernmental & Community Affairs from the NYC Department of Buildings, returns for a follow-up visit from January to continue the discussion regarding the process of obtaining a certificate of non-harassment for SRO's (Single Room Occupancy brownstones) and stalled construction sites--as well as other DOB issues you may want to raise.

Victor Moses, Property Assessor for NYC Dept of Finance, will discuss assessments of brownstones--especially the transition from SRO to 1-3 family.

The meeting is at Rice High School, 74 West 124th Street (just east of Lenox) and the nearest train is the 2,3 at 125th Street. Check out the MMPCIA site for all upcoming events: LINK.

  1. Can anyone attend this meeting? Or do you have to be a member? Thanks

  2. The meeting is open to the public.

  3. One caveat—up a flight of stairs, no elevator and handicapped access.

  4. Generally I am on the side of handicapped access and think all meetings open to the public should have handicapped access. But, brownstone buyers will have to deal with stairs unless they have $150k leftover to put into an elevator, so I can somewhat understand overlooking this. It's unfortunate, however.

  5. First of all, I meant in general. This is where they hold the meetings and I would love to attend on a regular basis but can’t because of my son. Nor can the elderly who are infirm.

I own a brownstone. We live on the garden and parlour floors and there is a chairlift, which I don't use but nice to know it’s there, connecting the two floors.

But that’s really beside the point. Public meetings should be accessible to the public and a lot of people have trouble with stairs for one reason or another.
