☞ REVIVE: 245 Lenox Gets Brownstoned
A reader mentioned that one of the landmark brownstones on lower Lenox was waiting for warmer weather to come around before the final brownstone surface would cover up the scratch coat finish (last photo) that has been sitting on the facade for months. As of last week, we took the top photo, and it seems like that moment is at hand. Number 245 Lenox is a prominent building in the Mount Morris Park Historic District which has been neglected for decades but has recently had new windows put in place, but apparently had a to wait a bit before completing its facade restoration. This cluster of buildings consisted of three properties that needed a major overhaul and it looks like this one will be finished sometimes by the end of the year. Photos by Ulysses

It is possible to replace the actual quarried brownstone at far greater expense as in this Madison Ave. brownstones described in the NY Times article, http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/17/realestate/17scapes.html. More common is a sand cement mix with a pigment to give it the brownstone color that is toweled on like icing a cake.
ReplyDeleteI hope the surrounding buildings will get a "deep facial" soon as well. They are so glorious. I am always in awe of these grant dames.
