☞ WALK: The Cotton Club's New Signage
We mentioned back in January that the third incarnation of the Cotton Club had removed its iconic circular sign (top photo). So what took its place? The lower photos show the black digital screen that are now currently up on either ends of the triangular building. The middle photo is what the typical passerby sees on an average day since it is usually turned off. When the signs are switched on, images of stage performances are usually flashed on the somewhat small screen (last photo). Maybe if they were bigger, it would be more effective? We kind of miss the old sign now that it's gone. The Cotton Club is at 656 125th Street at Riverside Drive. Take the 1 train to the 125th Street station to get to this location. Photos by Ulysses

What a shame.
ReplyDeleteReally awful
ReplyDeleteWhat were they thinking? What a stupid decision. Let's just go ahead and remove the Statue of Liberty's crown while we're at it. No one will notice.
ReplyDeleteWhy did a community board approve these god awful signs. First off, they are second hand and are already missing pixels. There is no reason why they would do this other than not knowing how to run a business.
ReplyDeleteUgly ugly ugly.
and why the quote marks around Omar Edwards’ name? Is he just pretending to be Omar Edwards? Is there a faux Omar Edwards, tap dancer?
ReplyDeleteIn all seriousness, rather than just wonder about these things it would behove us to get off our comfortable butts and go to community board meetings.
LOL @ Sanou's Mum "faux Omar Edwards, tap dancer." Being a stickler for proper grammar myself, I found it hilariously funny. Can you imagine however, showing up at the community board meetings and complaining about signage? I wonder what kind of reaction you might get.
