☞ EAT: Frizzante Opens for Lunch Service

Frizzante is probably the most authentic italian restaurant to open uptown in some time (seeing that the owners are from Italy) and they have only been serving dinner in the evenings until now. Walking down on FDB/8th Avenue this week, we saw that the eatery had an OPEN FOR LUNCH sign out front and couple of guests eating inside. Some folks have been complaining about this new South Harlem restaurant's odd hours in the past and now it seem like things will be a bit more regular. To check out Frizzante at 2168 FDB/8th Avenue (at 117th), take the B,C to 116th Street to get this corner of South Harlem. Tel. (212) 866-0525. Read the review in our past post: LINK. 1. Love the French doors wrapping around the corner and the way this restaurant illuminates the sidewalk at night, a great addition to the block. And the food is good.

  2. The food quality has declined since they've been busier. What was once a "Mushroom Feta omelette" is now a "Mushy Mozzerella omelette."

Melba's, Five and Diamond, and Mojo all make this place look like a joke.

  3. We've had delicious food at Frizzante, like the vegetable lasagna and the chicken scarpariello. Yum. Great to hear they're now open for lunch.

  4. I don't think those other places are open for lunch during the week.

  5. You can't really compare Frizzante to Melba's, Five and Diamond and Mojo as they serve very different purposes. Frizzante is the casual neighborhood place you take your kids to, Mojo and Melba's are much more adults-only oriented. Heck, Mojo is practically a nightclub. Five and Diamond's entrees are double or triple the cost of those at Frizzante and it has a celebrity chef (i.e. it is a destination restaurant that you go to on special occasions).

  6. this is a totally acceptable, casual neighborhood place. the food's not great, but not bad, and the prices are in line with what you're getting. also, these guys just started a pretty good happy hour from 5-8.

Pisticci on La Salle St. is probably more bang for yr buck, but it's a hike for yr average harlem resident and is mobbed up with Columbia kids most nights.

Yeah, 5 and Diamond is heads and shoulders above it. So is Spago. What's your point?
