☞ DWELL: The Harlem Brownstone Shell 2010
Central Harlem brownstone shell prices have gone down since their million dollar peak around 5 years ago and 140 West 130th Street might be a good end of the year price gauge for the market. The SRO building with a reported certificate of non harassment in place is a modest 16.75 foot wide (5-story tall) and was asking for $1.1 million about 2 years ago. Several extreme price cuts later, the final asking price landed at $490K and the building was just sold for that amount last month according to public records. Location wise, the blocks is lined with brownstones on both sides but this buildings was one of a couple of unsightly shells remaining on the street. There's not much detail left inside and the brownstone consist mostly of 4 bare brick walls as per the photos in the Daily News this past year: LINK. Nevertheless, the building's bombed-out state didn't prevent soap actor Cameron Mathison from previously buying the next door brownstone at number 136 to raise his family (Mr. Mathison has since relocated to California for work but still owns the building which is currently a rental): LINK
