☞ INTRODUCING: The El Barrio Firehouse
Yesterday, Curbed provided a great update on the adaptive reuse firehouse at 175 East 104th Street which was designated an official New York City Landmark back in 2008: LINK. Based on the project's website, the 5-story Victorian structure will be converted into a community media center with three live broadcast and production studios, a large multi-purpose meeting space, a performance space, camera studio facilities along with a broadband training center: LINK. The building has been around since 1885 and will open again sometimes in 2011. Our only question now is if a similar one on East 125th Street will ever receive the same treatment: LINK

I live next door to this building and while the construction has been slow going (especially compared to the Glass Tower around the corner), its making its way. The detail and renovation on the facade which you can now see with most of the scaffolding down is really beautiful. They had to build an entirely new roof, and quell streams that ran underneath the building, in addition to other challenges. MNN has been great as a neighbor, we're excited for this new edition to our block to open...and the construction to cease!
