☞ READ: Hot Bread Kitchen Opens at La Marqueta
Crain's reports today that the the $1.5 million incubator bakery project that takes up a third of the La Marqueta space under the Park Avenue tracks has finally opened as of yesterday: LINK. The Hot Bread Kitchen organization (which teaches culinary classes to immigrant women in tandem with running a baking business) will oversea the project that is designed to aid small baking businesses in the area expand by leasing out the affordable large facilities now available. According to the article, La Marqueta has about 10,000 square foot of open air market beneath the underpass but most of the local vendors have long disappeared. With the arrival of Magnolia Bakery alongside Fat Witch's baking facility across the street, the government efforts to revive the area for the baking industry seems to apparently be working. There's a great video on Hot Bread Kitchen in our past post for those who want to learn more about the organization: LINK
