☞ REVIVE: What's Up with 145 West 118th?

We reviewed the shell at 145 West 118th Street last summer since a For Sale sign had disappeared from the facade and reader just recently mentioned that a sidewalk shed had currently been place out front.  So what's going on with this property?  Apparently this section of 118th Street between Lenox and ACP/7th Avenue has a lot of homes owned by HPD and many of them have been sold off via lottery to locals or police officers: LINK.  The property in question is still owned by HPD based on current DOB permits filed last September and remedial repairs have been sited within the paperwork.  There's actually quite a few permits for the renovation of this property (from the past 5 years) but it seems like HPD has been a little behind on financing the progress.  Check out our previous post on 145 West 118th: LINK

  1. Here's some additional information that just came in:

    - a private owner purchasing it at peak market hoping he could flip it
    - building has no roof and no back wall
    - was in danger of collapse and city was going to demolish it
    - owner put in steel beams to keep it from falling
    - HPD took the building but still not sure how that happened exactly

At present it sits with a sidewalk shed that was installed this past summer. It is structurally in terrible shape and would certainly cost a lot to repair if they want to keep the exterior facade (and with a pending landmark status on our block, it might never get done).
