It's really turning out to be a television themed day with another TV show related event on the radar. Those capes adorning the statues of Harriet Tubman (at 122nd) and Frederick Douglass (at 110th) on FDB/8th Avenue apparently honor historic heros but are also an NBC promotion for the network's new cape-centric superhero show. A Harlem Bespoke reader sent us the above photo yesterday and thought that all the marketing logos were just a bit too brazen. If it's any comfort, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln get the same treatment downtown before the event finally ends on January 9th: LINK. Double click on image to enlarge.
Wow. That’s really a more than a bit over the top, isn ’t it!?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I saw FD draped in one this morning. Must admit he did cut a fine figure in the gusting wind, but can't quite decide how appropriate this is (not very being my gut feeling!)
ReplyDeleteI await the sight of the ACP statue heroically walking uphill with his cape flapping in the breeze. :)
ReplyDelete@Vic. You are not alone! What a sight that would be.
ReplyDeleteI think it would have been far more effective if they'd displayed the show information a LOT smaller.
ReplyDeleteSucks that NYC is so hard up for money we have to sell our heroes as advertising placement.
