☞ EAT: Bistro Cedric Starts Up

Walking by the old Mojo space at 185 St. Nicholas Avenue and 119th Street we noticed that construction for the the new bistro that will be called Cedric had just begun.  Current photo after the jump.
Workers were set up out front yesterday and painting over the original black and purple hues of the facade.  It might just be primer at this point so the final colors will be revealed in the next couple of days or so.  This distinct corner space could really be something else if a sidewalk cafe arrives in the near future so that could be something to look out for (maybe next year).  Walking by this morning revealed an entirely gutted interior with exposed brick walls, white painted wainscot paneling and dramatic hanging ceiling fans. As mentioned previously, Harlem resident Cedric LeCendre is also the general manager at the prominent Upper East Side eatery called Le Bilboquet. Read more on the story in our original post: LINK

  1. Why didn't this place make it? It was even featured in an American Express tv ad.

  2. We only went twice. Our sense was that they were unclear about what they wanted to be - restaurant, or lounge or simply a bar with food. As such, we didn't go back, as we're just looking for a great, mellow restaurant to eat locally in. It's an issue with some of the newer Harlem places (inc. Chocolat) that give a mixed signal as to what they're offering.

  3. Were its prices as high as Chocolat?

  4. I went twice, once for food and once just for drinks, and both times I felt that prices were high and service was terrible. Both times the place was practically empty yet service was slow. Oh well.

  5. Went once, food was average at best (e.g., overcooked lamb). Style over substance (and not even that much style).

Doesn't have to be fancy, but needs to be done well for me to come back.
