☞ REMEMBER: Halk's Cottage on Pleasant Ave

An old photo of East Harlem shows the true rural nature of certain uptown neighborhoods in the late 19th century.  East Harlem's Pleasant Avenue at 116th has mostly tenement buildings and brownstones but it appears that the occasional large cottage estate used to be the standard for the area before those developments took over.  The image information states that the northwest corner building was called Halk's Cottage and that is pretty much all the information about the Victorian house with the gingerbread trim.  At the lower photo, one can see that even more modern construction has arrived on the east side of this particular block in the past couple of years.

  2. It is, Greg. Just love the steep gables and the tall chimneys.

  3. It looks almost exactly like the Delamater House in Rhinebeck... A former estate which has been taken over by the Beekman Arms and now is used as a hotel. Here's a link, in case anyone's looking for a weekend away. :)
