☞ REMEMBER: Shoe-shine at 135th circa 1939

The archival photo from 1939 shows the a busy intersection of 135th Street and Lenox Avenue before some newer construction arrived to this block of Central Harlem.  We are guessing that this is probably the west side of the avenue looking south and one can see all the original buildings and storefronts that added to the pedestrian life of the day.  Today a housing tower built in the mid 20th century now stands at this particular location if our guess is on target.  Image courtesy of NYPL
