☞ INTRODUCING: Day of the Dead Exhibit

Saturday, October 15th, 4:00PM-8:00PM, Day of the Dead Exhibit at Azucarera Gallery, 414 West 145th Street. Mexican-born, New York-based artists Andrea Arroyo and Felipe Galindo present an art exhibit to celebrate the "Day of the Dead." An opening reception for the artists is scheduled for Saturday, October 15th, from 4-8 pm. The exhibit will be on view from October 15-November 12th. Thursdays: 2-4PM, Saturday-Sunday: 2-6PM and by appointment.

Felipe Galindo presents "Funny Bones" a series of humorous works celebrating the Mexican Day of the Dead. Galindo's images merge New York and Mexican cultures, and are inspired by traditional Day of the Dead altars as well as contemporary imagery.

Andrea Arroyo presents “Altar,” a selection of works from her project-in-progress "Flor de Tierra, Homage to the Women of Juarez." The project looks to commemorate the women of Juarez, the border city in Mexico where more than 400 women have gone missing or been killed in the past 15 years. Many of these victims were abandoned in the desert or buried in shallow graves, and Arroyo's project focuses on creating a pastel-on-paper drawing as a tribute for each victim. Arroyo's work continues to celebrate women's lives, as she explores notions of gender, race, and identity.
