It was reported last month that Mike's Newsstand and Candy Land off the corner of 122nd Street and Lenox had closed down and the plywood fence up at 241 Lenox now only confirms the end of era for a famous Harlem vendor. This corner building has started up its renovation process after being stalled for over a year but as progress made its way, the business that has been open for several decades on the ground floor has now been boarded up as the lower photo shows. There is no news if the actual stand will still be part of the restored building but for now it looks that the kiosk might still exist under all the construction.
Ohhh noooo - this would be worth putting forth a petition for. It would be a shame to loose this tiny Harlem treasure.
