☞ SEE: Art Culture Matures in West Harlem
Chashama has taken over many of the unused factory spaces over by The Mink Building and has been converting them into impressive galleries. Many of the local artists in the area are on display at a gallery space in the main building just east of Amsterdam on 126th Street but we were most impresses with some of the large scale work being shown elsewhere within the factory district. A massive set of inflatables that were blown up to take up most of the entrance at an adjacent shopfront was one of the especially memorable pieces on display at this weekend's big studio tours
Another interesting exhibit can also be found at the former Citarella storefront that faces the 125th Street which shows a modern urban Safari at play. There is a lot of larger scale artwork that goes beyond 2 dimensions happening in the city and it was refreshing to see these pieces uptown. More details on Chashama can be found on the organization site: LINK
