SHOP: TANDOORI OPENS ON BROADWAY

We kind of had higher hopes for the Indian spot that just opened on Broadway but Tandoori by 149th Street appears to be just a takeout spot and a bodega of sorts.  This type of fast food aesthetic is common on the Broadway corridor but if newer businesses want to make it in the current market, they probably should look at Chipped Cup or Harlem Public to see what is a more current.  We are also a little confused with the American food angle since most Americans who like Indian food are not looking for American food at such establishments.  Has anyone been inside yet?

  1. yes was there a week ago, they are affiliated with the pizza take out place two doors down. The food is just okay. the menu has Indian Pizza, american sandwich and salads. Also the Indian staples.

  2. Went there with my roommate a few nights ago. The woman in front of us ordered her food, and we watched as the worker but her food in the microwave to warm it up before serving it to her. If I wanted a microwave-dinner, I would have saved the cash and bought some Trader Joes. Had high hopes, but probably will not be going back.

  3. Extensive variety of Indian take-out cuisine. Love the Bollywood music! Wish they would replace the American groceries with Indian spices & groceries.

  5. I think it has great potential, actually. I got dinner there 2 nights ago and it was delicious. The guys behind the counter were super nice also. I figure I'll go back with my own dishes to avoid the plastic. Better to support this with our business and suggestions for change -- Indian groceries would be great -- than just dismiss it and watch it fail, right?
